Formerly part of Clifford Chance’s real estate team, Jonathan Geen has extensive experience in project and development-related finance.

Jonathan recently concluded a multi-phase £400m development facility which has underpinned the hugely successful Central Square development in Cardiff city centre, Wales’s largest urban regeneration project.

He has also structured and executed two prominent housing bonds in London, addressing homelessness in the City and the funding of a major, local school development project in Zone 1.

His innovative approach has seen him win multiple awards and he is increasingly involved in a number of cross-border financing projects.

Jonathan is a multi-award-winning lawyer with over 20 years of experience in real estate projects, funding, and structuring. Selected for The Legal 500 Hall of Fame for the consistently excellent client feedback he gets and ranked by Chambers & Partners as a leading individual, Jonathan has worked on many landmark projects of national significance.

He has twice been voted by peers as Wales’ top real estate lawyer and his team has been Real Estate Law Firm of the Year for the last three years in succession.

  • Real estate projects including structures, acquisitions, disposals development and leasing
  • Real estate finance – negotiation of forward funding, debt/equity and project finance agreements, export finance, drafting of security agreements, construction documentation and complex facility arrangements
  • Leading the largest ever funding transaction in Wales as part of the creation of a major mixed use City Centre development including the development of the BBC Headquarters, HMRC headquarters and new rail and road transport interchange and Wales’ largest build to rent development
  • Structuring a joint venture development of a major new school, residential development and community sports facility in Central London involving Government, local authority, funders and private sector stakeholders, now under construction
  • Structuring and delivering two major housing bonds of cumulative value over £180m in London to assist provision of housing to homeless families in both North and South London
  • Advising on two major waterfront mixed use development projects, Cardiff’s International Sports Village, a £500m residential and leisure project and Swansea Waterfront
  • Advising on several new security token and digital equity offerings in London and Malta concerning real estate funds
